THE EDITORIAL BOARD AND PUBLISHING HOUSE OF “ODZIEŻ”
1932
Bells are ringing, and everywhere their joyful sound awakens hope for a better tomorrow… Do we truly have reasons to expect a better fate from the future than the past has given us? Does it not seem as if the ball is rolling down a steep slope, ultimately disappearing into nothingness? And the business activity that the Old Year so kindly granted us for Christmas, might it not be merely a deceptive “fata morgana” of the senses and emotions? We have become skeptical due to the sad experiences we had to endure in 1931. When we look back and review our balance sheet, we must acknowledge that many a craftsman has been reduced to beggary. Social benefits and taxes bear the greatest share in the impoverishment of our craft and the hindrance of its development. And when clientele cannot cover their wardrobe needs to the usual extent, one might, if one still possesses some humor, consider it a personal setback. However, when even the heavens, completely beyond all human calculation, introduce an entirely different calendar, in which the seasons occur completely differently than we are accustomed to by tradition, it allows us to express the assumption that the decline of the tailoring craft is a foregone conclusion. Or perhaps this, too, is part of that great process of joyful creation that has not yet concluded?
TO THE ESTEEMED SUBSCRIBERS OF “ODZIEŻ”
From January 1, 1932, we are changing the subscription fee for “Odzież” from 12,— to 14,— zł. We have found that every tailor needs fashion journals, which — often even unsuitable — they buy wherever they can, paying high prices for them. Meanwhile, a professional magazine that improves their cutting and provides economic assistance, and therefore holds greater significance for many, is not subscribed to, or often the subscription fee is not paid, exposing the magazine to losses.
Guided by this observation, we have decided to replace the pocket-sized journal with a larger journal as a supplement to “Odzież”, containing 60 different model designs, which will satisfy all requirements of the average clientele. (For first-class stores and tailoring salons, we recommend the large luxury “Album Fashionable” or similar at a reduced price.) For female tailors, we will be adding a special women’s journal.
Since the “Pan” journal alone costs 3.25 zł. seasonally, the actual price for 6 issues of “Odzież” semi-annually is only 3.75 zł. At such a price and with this volume, no other professional magazine is published in Poland.
Dear Readers! Do not buy other journals, as on February 1st you will receive our album journal “Pan” as a supplement to “Odzież”, whose semi-annual subscription (6 issues with supplements) is only 7,— zł. Pay the subscription by check to P. K. O. Nr. 300.979, and collection costs will be avoided.
Bells are ringing… We have laid the Old Year to rest without a tear in our eye, and we must look forward. For we have—
