Patterned Fabrics and Lace

On fashionable fabrics for the summer season

For summer, patterned fabric — this is the unchanging law of fashion, lasting for many, many years. Each year different patterns and colors appear — different uses of fabric, but the idea remains the same: our summer outfit is made of imprimé. This year, fashion particularly favors patterned fabrics and allows them to appear not only as dresses — suits, coats, wraps, boleros, and capes — all of this can now be made from patterned materials.

Patterns on Black Backgrounds

The most popular patterns are scattered on a black background. So sometimes a pattern of tiny roses or leaves, other times a bold Gypsy design, or flaming roses or poppies scattered on a black background, just like on large Spanish shawls.

Polka dots and checks are still very popular, and one even wears these two patterns simultaneously, and they don't clash at all. Furthermore, Chinese motifs like lanterns, Chinese houses, mandarins' heads — these fabrics are especially suited to loose, Eastern forms that fashion has particularly taken to this year.

A touch of extravagance — patterns with dominoes, playing cards, postage stamps, letters, and musical notes, which Paris promotes, but it seems they won't find approval in the eyes of our ladies.

Creating Garments from Patterned Fabrics

From all these beautiful patterned fabrics, we create exquisite things. A suit from navy fabric with a white pattern will certainly be seen often. A skirt with pleated insertions at the back and front, a short tailcoat with a protruding peplum at the back, a jabot of white lace — the whole thing elegant, practical, and suitable for all occasions.

Then a new chapter in fashion: blouses, tuxedos, and patterned kazaks. Just one black skirt, plain or pleated, is enough to create a beautiful summer suit with the help of a jacket made of patterned material.

Patterned Dresses

However, the most worn will be dresses made of patterned material, complemented by a loose blazer lined with the same fabric from which the dress was made. Or the same thing — reversed: a plain dress with a patterned blazer. Each of these combinations is welcome. Furthermore, we will continue to wear patterned evening dresses throughout the summer.

Lace in Fashion

Fashion surrounds lace with great care this year, as it appears in various forms on ladies' outfits. In one collection, a beautiful model was shown: an ensemble of black wool, consisting of a dress belted with a Scottish sash, decorated with a ruffle of Irish, stiff lace. Matching cuffs adorned the loose little jacket.

Lace suits are not rare at all — we see them in black and navy. A white lace blouse with a black crepe-satin skirt makes a beautiful outfit for afternoon hours, and the height of elegance is a dress of white lace, intended for summer garden parties.
